Currently, approximately 46% of marriages end in divorce. Surprisingly, this is 3% less than a decade ago.

There is no doubt that divorce can be stressful emotionally and financially. The length and cost of a divorce in Illinois is dependent not only on the complexity of issues involved, but also the ability of the husband and wife to reach an agreement, and to put their emotions aside.

A recent study by Nolo, a self help legal publisher, has provided average costs of a divorce in each state. The nationwide average cost of a divorce is $15,000.00. Below you will find the top ten most expensive states in terms of divorce costs.

Keep in mind that average of divorce costs can be quite misleading. Some divorces may cost only a couple thousand dollars and some divorces may cost upwards of one hundred thousand dollars. An average of these numbers does not always provide a realist expectation of the cost of your divorce.
